How to study?

October21

Many people have researched ways of studying to retain information.  the New York Times recently had an article about the best study methods.  Check it out…let me know what you think!

Global Studies Week of October 10

October12

So far this week we have been looking at Apartheid in South Africa and how they have strived to overcome that.  On Monday we took some notes on what Apartheid was and what was done to try to put a stop to it.  On Tuesday we took some notes on who Nelson Mandela was and also watched a video clip on how he was able to pull South Africa together so they could work towards a common goal.  We also started filling out our study guide for the test on this unit which will be next week.  Each day we will take a few minutes to fill out some of that guide so that by the time the test arrives it should be completed.  Here’s what’s in store for the rest of the week:

Wednesday

Today we will be bringing together what is currently happening in South Africa with what had happened in the past.  The assignment from Tuesday was to read an article titled “Beyond Apartheid” and answer some questions.  We will be discussing those.  The homework for today will be to read chapter 6, section 1 in the book and answer the questions given in class.  This will be due on Thursday.

Thursday

Today the students will be handing in their worksheet with questions from chapter 6, section 1.  We will focus on AIDS and the impact AIDS has on a community.  We will read the article, “In Africa, A Town Unravels,” and answer some questions.  There will only be homework if the questions are not finished in class.

Friday

The focus of today will be on the impact of population growth, environmental destruction, and genocide.  We will be reading about Rwanda and Somalia and how they were effected by these issues.  The second part of class we will play the current events game.

THINKING

If you think you are beaten, you are.
If you think you dare not, you don’t.
If you’d like to win but think you can’t, it’s almost a cinch you won’t.
If you think you’ll lose, you’ve lost;
For out in the world we find success begins with a person’s will –
It’s all in the state of mind.

If you think you’re outclassed, you are;
We’ve got to think high to rise.
You’ve got to be sure of yourself before you can ever win a prize.
Life’s battles don’t always go to the stronger or faster person;
But sooner or later the one who wins,
Is the one who thinks he/she can!
