Federal Education Jobs Act to Benefit Sheboygan Falls Schools
Sheboygan Falls, WI – The Federal Education Jobs bill has been passed and signed into law. Public schools across the country can look forward to sharing approximately $10 billion in new federal aid. Even though all the details have not been made available, this is welcome news to all school districts, including the School District of Sheboygan Falls.
The purpose of the Education Jobs Act is to help schools retain or hire back people who work directly with students, like teachers and aides. Districts have the option of spending the money this school year or next. Sheboygan Falls is scheduled to receive approximately $395,000 in federal aid. This amount, while significant, represents less than 2% of our total yearly budget.
As a school district that regularly spends below the state average, Sheboygan Falls has been making consistent staff and budget reductions on a yearly basis since the state of Wisconsin imposed revenue limits on all school districts in 1993. Using Education Jobs Act funds to restore critical positions will help reduce large class sizes, better support students, and ease the financial pressure on taxpayers. The school board has chosen to carefully spend a portion of this money (approximately $123,000) immediately in the 2010-2011 school year, reserving the remaining federal funds to be used as needed in the 2011-2012 school year.
