YEARBOOKS~ Last minute orders are being taken now for a limited number of extra yearbooks, provided to us by our publisher. These books are being sold on a first come, first served basis. Interested students should pick up an order form from the ACTION Room bulletin board or the MS office. Parents should complete the form and return it with a payment of $21.00 ASAP. Book Swap – Mr. McNulty Memorial Traveling "little" Library – Looking for a new book to read over the summer? Wondering what to do with your old Book Fair purchases? Bring a gently used book and trade it for a book from our Mr. McNulty Memorial Traveling "little" Library. Mr. McNulty was a dedicated volunteer who worked with 5^th grade students over the years. Mrs. Jarentowski will be traveling throughout the middle school with a book cart during guided study all next week. Read a good book lately? Pass it on…

ST. JUDE MATH-A-THON!!! A big THANK YOU goes out to all the students and staff members who participated this year! Thirty-five students raised a total of $1370.90, which will help support research and finding a cure for childhood cancer. YOU ARE AWESOME! Participation certificates and thank you items are on their way and will be distributed during the last week of school. THANK YOU AGAIN to Mrs. Hittman’s class for having the most contributing participants. Enjoy your popcorn party today!

SPRING SCIENCE CHALLENGE WINNERS ~ THE GREAT PADDLE BOAT CHALLENGE! Congratulations to Elliott G~ first place, Sara H~ second place and Emma T~ third place!

BATTLE OF THE BOOKS~ All students who signed up to participate in this year’s BOB challenge should come to the ACTION Room TODAY, FRIDAY, MAY 24^th at the start of the lunch/ recess or recess/lunch period. You should bring your lunch with you to the ACTION Room, as we will use the entire period for our challenge.

BALLET WORKSHOP~ TODAY… Friday, May 24th! Are you a fan of the ballet? Perhaps you attended one of our trips to see the Milwaukee Ballet perform The Nutcracker or Swan Lake? Or maybe you were awed by the performance of Dr. Injury Returns that you attended last March at the high school? Maybe you are a dancer yourself? Milwaukee Ballet School instructor and dancer Angela Fiorini will be holding a Ballet Workshop for those interested in participating in a real ballet class. Ballet slippers are welcome, but not required. Please wear socks and loose fitting clothing to allow for full participation. The workshop will be held TODAY from 2:30PM until 3:10 in the ACTION Room. Please sign up on the ACTION Room bulletin board, as there are limited spots available.

FIRST IN MATH team members should continue to work on your goals at home. You have through the 31st to earn stickers toward our May awards. We will meet again on TUESDAY, May 28th during the guided study period.

BUBBLES & BEADS~ Create an artsy bubble wand using shining copper wires and sparkling beads. Then test your wand using our super-duper bubble solution! Sign up for our after-school enrichment workshop, being held on Thursday, May 30th from 3:15 until 4:15PM. Pick up your permission slip from the ACTION Room bulletin board, or from Mrs. Anderson or Mrs. Fiorini.

YEARBOOK STAFF MEMBERS~ Please remember to come to the ACTION Room on Friday, May 31st at 2:15PM for our special assignment! You will be back to your GS room by 2:45PM.

School Tool Box Kits on Sale! We are happy to announce that you can now order your child’s School Tool Box Kit online at schooltoolbox.com. Place your order online and it will be delivered directly to your home address. You do have the option of customizing your order, taking off any supplies you may already have. School Tool Box Kits will be on sale beginning May 20^th and will remain for sale through the summer.

Art Room news~ We are at that lovely time of year where the Art Supplies are running low. Right now we are out of drawing pencils and erasers, so students in Art class should come to class with a pencil/eraser from their own personal supply. Also, if you feel like you are slightly behind on a project that is due by the end of the year, please feel free to GET A PASS from Ms. Andersen and come in during Guided Study to get caught up. Best days for open Art studio time are Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays.

Attention 8^th grade students that would like to work on the picture presentation for the 8^th grade recognition night Please sign up with Miss McCabe before the end of the week. We will be meeting during guided study time starting the week after Memorial Day.

The Sheboygan Falls Rec Department is looking for 4-5 more 5th & 6th grade boys to join the Rec League Baseball team. The team plays in the Sheboygan Rec League on Monday and Wednesday evenings. In conjunction with Major League Baseball, the Sheboygan Jaycees are hosting a competitive event called Pitch Hit and Run. The competition is for young adults between the ages of 7-14 years old. This event will focus on skill, accuracy, and ability in the three categories important in baseball. If you would like more info please stop in MS office for more info.

The Shrine Circus is going to be at Blue-Line Ice Center on May 25^th – May 26^th . If you are interested in going, there are FREE child passes in the MS office.

There will be an informational High School Girls Swimming meeting

taking place at Kohler High School Youth Center (near the pool) on

Wednesday, May 29th at 6:00 pm.

No need to have previous competitive swimming experience to be a part

of the team. Come meet the girls from Kohler, Sheboygan Falls,

Lutheran, and Christian who are part of Team SPLASH! Coach Ellifson

will get you information regarding swimmer swimming programs,

summer athletic training clubs, and practice/meet information for the

20135wim Season.

Team SPLASH is a Co-Op swim program which trains in Kohler. Season

will run from August 13 th until Mid-November with swim meets taking

place on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and a few

Saturdays.

Registration for Sheboygan Falls Rec Dept and Aquatic Center summer programs is underway! Summer programs include: youth tennis lessons, adult tennis league, cardio tennis, swim lessons, swim team, parent/child swim lessons, wrestling, and water aerobics. Volley Ball Camp: Deb Hasler is going to be leading the camps June 10-13. Those who are going to be in 3-4 grade for the 2013-14 school year will be from 3:00-4:15. Camp for grades 5-6 will be from 4:15-5:30. Camp for 7-9 will be 11:30-2:30.

Basketball News!! Sheboygan Falls boys’ basketball camp for boys entering 4th grade through 8th grade is July 8th through July 11th. Learn the fundamentals of shooting, dribbling, passing, playing defense, and running an offense from the Sheboygan Falls’ basketball coaching staff and players. Camp also includes a free-throw, one-on-one, hot shot, and defensive contest and awards. Camp forms are located in the office or you can pick one up from Mr. Frohling at the middle school. 5th and 6th graders, it’s Business Expo time! Begin digging through the couch, opening up those piggy banks, and asking your parents, "please, please, please" for money to buy great products at next Tuesday’s Business Expo.

7^th Grade Business Expo

This spring seventh grade students will be studying economic concepts. Students will partner up to manufacture and sell homemade products from their partnership. The partnerships will "open for business" and sell their wares on Student Business Expo Day. Through this activity students will experience being an entrepreneur as well as practice the process of manufacturing, marketing and selling a product hoping to generate a profit. Money raised will be used for the continuation of the 7^thGrade Beautification Project and other 7^thgrade related activities.

Key info:

Each student will work with a partner(s) (Groups no larger than 3)

All materials for constructing the products must be donated (no reimbursements)

A detailed record should be kept of all expenses-to be used to determine profits/losses

The Business Expo will be Tuesday, May 21^5t 2013 with set up in the

gym from 7:55-8:45 a.m.

Booths will be open to parents and fifth and sixth grade students from

8:45-10:31 a.m.

Cleanup to follow-if possible, parents are encouraged to take tables, equipment, etc. home at this time; however, this can be done at the end of the school day as well.

Please sign the backside of this sheet informing us that you are aware of the Business Expo project and indicate if you would like to help sell tickets.

Student council’s "End-of-the Year" bust up party will be Monday, May 20th from 3:15 to 4:00 in the Art room.

· Buckle up on every ride, in every vehicle, with every driver. It’s the law.

· Children should ride in the back seat until they are at least 13 years old.

· The driver should not be distracted – no phoning or texting.

· Never ride in the bed of a pickup truck.

· Never play in or around cars.

You must use your math skills to determine your supply orders, how to measure toppings for pizza orders, and how much dough to have on hand each week, based on previous week sales. Sign up on the ACTION Room bulletin board and then come to the ACTION Room TODAY, THURSDAY during the guided study period. (No backpacks or coats please~ just bring a pencil!)

ECO NATURE CLUB members are reminded of our after school meeting TODAY, THURSDAY from 3:15 until 4:30PM. Come celebrate our winning bird feeder with an ice cream party provided by Masters Gallery of Plymouth.

SPRING SCIENCE CHALLENGE~ THE GREAT PADDLE BOAT CHALLENGE! If you missed the meeting, pick up an info sheet from the ACTION Room bulletin board, return the permission slip to receive your challenge materials, then come to the challenge event on Thursday, May 23rd. Your challenge will be to build a paddle boat that will travel the length of a 5" by 20′ rain gutter!

BATTLE OF THE BOOKS~ There’s still time to sign up! Stop in to the MS library before or after school to pick up information and check out your first book. Battle dates are planned for May 23rd and 24th. See Mrs. Fiorini for more information.

Student council’s "End-of-the Year" bust up party will be Monday, May 20th from 3:15 to 4:00 in the Art room.

Student Council will be selling ice cream this Friday and next Friday for the last time this year. For the next two weeks we will have a bucket for students to put in their extra change to support a family in our district. All of the money from the sales plus the "change" collected will be donated.

May is Mental Health Month!

Positive mental health contributes greatly to student academic success.

With the help of local mental health professionals, Mental Health American will be offering Free Mental Health Screening Week May 13th – 17th. If you are concerned about your mental health or the mental health of your student, please take this opportunity to be screened by a professional. Symptoms of depression (such as persistent feelings of sadness, hopelessness, feeling tense and irritable, unexplainable aches and pains, or thoughts of suicide) are all indicators that help might be needed. All screenings are free and confidential. Call MHA to set up your appointment at 458-3951 or email mhasheb@mcleodusa.net. Depression is treatable and you can find hope in your future. Lyme Disease is a bacterial infection transmitted by the bite of an infected deer tick, found on all types of vegetation and animals, especially in the woods. The deer tick is most active spring through fall. Symptoms include a bulls-eye ring shaped rash which may occur at the bite site within 4-20 days, fever, chills, headache, joint stiffness, weakness and fatigue. Prompt medical treatment can cure the infection and prevent later complications.

To prevent Lyme Disease

When around vegetation wear long sleeve shirt, long pants, and high socks with pants tucked into socks
Avoid contact with vegetation
Wear light colored clothing to make ticks easier to find
When in the woods use insect repellents containing at least 0.5 % permethrin or 20-30% DEET
Brush off clothing and check for ticks after being in the woods

To remove an attached tick, grasp it with narrow-bladed tweezers as close as possible to attachment (skin) site, and pull upward and out with a firm and steady tension. Be careful not to squeeze, crush or puncture the body of the tick that may contain infectious fluids. After removing the tick, thoroughly disinfect the bite site and wash hands. See or call a doctor if there is a concern about incomplete tick removal. It is important that a tick be properly removed as soon as it is discovered.

When around vegetation wear long sleeve shirt, long pants, and high socks with pants tucked into socks
Avoid contact with vegetation
Wear light colored clothing to make ticks easier to find
When in the woods use insect repellents containing at least 0.5 % permethrin or 20-30% DEET
Brush off clothing and check for ticks after being in the woods

7^th Grade Business Expo

Key info:

Each student will work with a partner(s) (Groups no larger than 3)

All materials for constructing the products must be donated (no reimbursements)

A detailed record should be kept of all expenses-to be used to determine profits/losses

The Business Expo will be Tuesday, May 21^5t 2013 with set up in the

gym from 7:55-8:45 a.m.

Booths will be open to parents and fifth and sixth grade students from

8:45-10:31 a.m.

Cleanup to follow-if possible, parents are encouraged to take tables, equipment, etc. home at this time; however, this can be done at the end of the school day as well.

Please sign the backside of this sheet informing us that you are aware of the Business Expo project and indicate if you would like to help sell tickets.

ST. JUDE MATH-A-THON~ Thank you to all student participants! The math class with the most contributing participants and the winner of the popcorn party is… Mrs. Hittman’s math student!! Congratulations to you and to ALL students who participated! Your hard work is greatly appreciated! Any student who has not yet turned in their pledge money envelope should do so no later than Tuesday afternoon.

SPRING SCIENCE CHALLENGE~ THE GREAT PADDLE BOAT CHALLENGE! Come to the ACTION Room on Monday, May 13th during your recess period to learn about your challenge to build a paddle boat that will travel the length of a 5" by 20′ rain gutter!
