Health Services

School nurses are responsible for protecting and promoting the health of all students.

The goal of the school nurse is to maximize each student's potential to learn and grow by providing  necessary health care and ensuring a healthy learning environment.

  • Perform vision and hearing screenings and refer students as necessary
  • Administer and monitor daily medication administration
  • Check immunization records to make sure students meet minimal state immunization requirements
  • Train and supervise non-licensed personnel in various procedures
  • Provide care for sick or injured students
  • Manage chronic health conditions
  • Develop and implement Individual Health Plans (IHP)
  • Develop and implement Allergy Action Plans
  • Attend Individual Education Planning Meetings (IEP)
  • Participate on behavior/mental health teams
  • Share health related information with appropriate school personnel
  • Maintain student health records
  • Share health related information via newsletter articles
  • Provide classroom education on health related issue
    • 5th grade - Tar Wars & Hygiene
    • High School - On Your Own - Blood Pressure Monitoring
    • Assist with hands-on CPR training for students
  • Work with medical director
  • Develop policies regarding health and safety issues
  • Assist in maintaining a safe school environment
  • Documentation and maintenance of all AED's and EPI pens
  • Train and supervise non-licensed personnel in various procedures  i.e.. Epi Pen administration, tube feeding, urinary catherization, administration of injections, rectal medications, inhalers, and eye drops
  • Create budget
  • Order health room supplies
  • Serve on health related committees: AODA, School Wellness
  • Train and supervise non-licensed personnel in various procedures
  • Determine staff at risk for exposure to bloodbourne pathogen
  • Provide bloodbourne pathogen education for staff
  • Coordinate Medical Support Team / Offer CPR re-certification and AED training for team members
  • Monitor staff blood pressures
  • Coordinate Shape Up Sheboygan County Staff Fitness Activity for staff
