What is a PLC? Professional Learning Communities is how we engage in the follow questions: 1. What do we want our students to know? 2. How will we respond if they don't know it? 3. How will we know what we did was effective? 4. What are we going to do if they already know it? Teachers meet weekly to share their assessments, discuss proficiency rubrics, analyze data and create small groups for additional learning opportunities during our SOAR time.

Time to spotlight our Grade 7 mathematicians! Mr. Frohling's classes engaged in taking their learning to vertical spaces, including utilizing our windows! The math department continues to make a commitment to raising our student engagement by getting the students out of their seats and engaging in math collaboratively.

Our grade 8 mathematicians used vertical learning spaces this week to compare and contrast side lengths, angle measures, and areas using rigid transformations to explain why a shape is or is not congruent to another. The math department is committed to taking the learning out of the desks to increase student engagement and make our math learning visible to all.

Science students in Grade 7 investigated how different solutions affect gummy bear size and mass. They conducted a two day lab to test the claims on what solutions would have the greatest effect on gummy bears, clarifying understanding of the claim-evidence-reasoning process and the kick off of science labs

Today during our Wednesday SEL SOAR lesson students learned about the impact positive thinking and affirmations can have on their self esteem and wellness! Students created a positive affirmation poster to share good vibes with the SFMS community!

Students in 6th Grade Spanish created and shared presentations about things we need to know when traveling to different Spanish-speaking countries!

Algebra students today worked with Math Specialist Mrs Gehri on coaching each other through common misconceptions they had within the Unit 1 pre-assessment. Students got the opportunity to share their personal thinking and strategies and fellow classmates could then ask clarifying questions as they dove deeper into identifying the median and the Interquartile Range in various data sets such as dot and box plots.

Our resident District Activities Director Mr. Berlin came in to SOAR today to talk about all the opportunities for extra curricular offered at the Middle School. He informed students about the Activity Code that participants need to follow when engaging in these opportunities.
